an enviable position
Oh, to be a bright young vampire with a point of view. Someone’s point of view, anyway. No, the vampire Daniel is no fool. He walks into interviews with dangerous men and he engages with them on their own terms, and he walks back out again unharmed— well, he walks back out, well, he— he likes it, it’s a pleasure, that’s what was always wrong with him, wasn’t it. To get the story you need to empathize with the monster and to empathize with the monster you need to like him, and he loves his monsters, though he’s not fooled, of course, never gets too close, he’s too smart for that, not him. That’s what let him walk out of the Dubai penthouse—
—different, yes, unharmed, sure, well, he was out of control, he needed to be taken in hand, so he was, thank God. So it looked rocky for a while there but then the world righted itself, and everything turned out okay, and here he is draining a nice tasty arms dealer with his master’s soft beloved voice in his ear, yes, that’s it, gently, draw it out.
He is doing so well, today. He hadn’t gone for any drugged blood, hadn’t tried to eat outside the schedule. Hadn’t had to be punished even once, pulled over his master’s lap and his poor little behind smacked. He’s lucky it’s not the switch, of course, but he tries so hard, and he’s so young, oh, it would be such a pity to treat him too harshly.
So he deserves a reward instead, and he’s going to get one, he knows, if he can just be good until they get home. It’s for his own good, that he not give himself the temptation of what he shouldn’t be allowed. He can’t control himself on his own, too many drugs, too much delicious blood out there calling to him, he would get himself killed. Well, some children are like that.
It’s an enviable position, to be a millenigenarian pedophile: there are so very many children to choose from. And so why should Daniel not be one of them, after all he is only playing along, only pretending, just for a little while longer, until something else happens. Please daddy will you touch me, teach my sweet new body to me, yes, this is good enough for now. If he can’t have Armand, he can have what Armand had, and it’s good, so good, he can see why he stayed, why he loved, not that Daniel does, of course, he’s smarter than that. Smarter than that by quite a bit.
